What is a Rear Brake Pad Replacement?
Brake pads are rubber and they are placed on the rotor for the caliper to clamp down on to give added friction to stop the car. Brake pads are going to wear down as you drive and the more you drive, the more wear your brake pads are going to have. Most brake pads are not going to need to be changed out before 50,000 miles but if you have a car that you drive very often, if you brake a great deal, or if you are driving in stop and go traffic a great deal. Brake pads do help to elongate the life of your calipers and rotors and you can go through a few sets of brake pads before you do need to replace other vital components of the brake system. Brake pads are easy to replace and for those that are either driving a rear-wheel-drive car or that are getting all your pads replaced, a rear brake change is important.
When to Schedule Rear Brake Pad Replacement
Brake pads are not something that needs to be replaced terribly often. If you do drive a lot, you are obviously going to need to replace them faster than someone that does not drive a great deal. Once you get to the 50,000-mile mark you are likely going to have to have them changed out. You can choose different types of brake pads that do last longer than others. You can get brake pads that are thicker at the outset that might last longer and that are going to be a bit better made than other types. You can also get your brake pads checked to see how long they have left before they need to be changed and you can get as much life out of your brake pads as possible.
